McGeary Ranch is a sustainable,  grass-based farm run by Mike and Judith McGeary. We raise our animals as close to their natural state as possible, which makes them healthier and happier. We work hard to improve the soil and increase the diversity of our plants, and provide natural supplements. The result is a healthy environment, healthy animals, and nutritious food.

Our sheep and cattle graze on pesticide-free and herbicide-free pastures, with organically-grown alfalfa hay as a treat. Livestock guardian dogs protect the sheep from predators, so that they can range freely in search of the best grass and forbs. Our sheep are never fed any grain, so their meat is low in fat, yet high in Omega-3, CLA, Vitamin E, and other important nutrients. Lamb protein is more easily digested and better utilized than beef protein. Lamb is an excellent source of zinc, iron, B vitamins (especially B12), and carnitine, which is needed to generate energy from fatty acids. Our sheep have free-choice access to natural supplements such as kelp, redmond salt, and diatomaceous earth, and the pastures are fertilized with sea water and aerobic compost tea, to keep the sheep in optimal health and provide the highest nutritional value possible.

Humane treatment is a priority throughout the animals’ lives.  Our processor is a small, family-owned state-inspected facility. The lambs and steers are given Rescue Remedy the night before, and Mike stays with them at the processor to keep them calm.
